Blog Number Six: The Final Blog For A While – 8:20 local time

Well you know if I’m up in my room writing this only an hour or so after my last one it cannot be good news.

Every hard luck card player who ever lost a tourney has a bad beat story. Why, there’s more bad beat stories out there than there are ways to order coffee from Starbucks. And every one of them is more boring than the one that came before it. If you’ve heard one you’ve heard ’em all. It’s always about some moron who played his hand so poorly, so stupidly, that you can’t believe he was given the right to be at the same table as you. They’re as boring to tell as they are to hear and always annoying.

So let me tell you mine.

FINALLY. After staring at J2, 84, 73, 96 time after time after time my patience FINALLY paid off when I was down to about 2500 chips and I wake up to two red Jacks. With the blinds at 300 I get it all-in hoping some wise-guy just can’t resist calling my low stack so I can double up and catch a little breathing room. And didn’t some Dutch treat do exacly that. Wincing, he calls me with a paltry 97 suited in spades. Flop comes 256 (with two hearts). You ever have those days where you don’t even have to look at the next card to know what it is? Of course the 8 of hearts pops up to say “look at me!”which not only is his three-outer to make a straight, but worse, actually teases me into thinking I still have a chance with the fourth heart. That fourth heart was no where to be found on 5th street and so ends my Tournament.

Tossed out like day-old Danish Pastry.

Anyway no excuses. Can’t blame the guy really either. The IDIOT probably made the right call with me being so short-stacked. Listen, I played my game. Sometimes it works out, other times not so much. I just have got to take solace in the fact that, in the long run, if I always play my game, I will come out ahead. In the long run, I have great faith in that. It’s the journey, not the destination. And the hunt is always better than the kill. And a stitch in time saves nine.

Having said all that, I hate this place.

How far is Sweden from here? Don’t they speak some form of English there? Or was that just Ingrid Bergman?

Anyway, thanks for listening. We’ll do it agian soon.

Or not.

  1. Sorry to hear about the bust. As far as I’m concerned you know a whole other language and it’s not Danish, it’s poker. From what I understand you didn’t get as far as you wanted but hey, you flew first class, ate free food and set some shit on fire. That’s a pretty sweet trip in my books.
