Blog Number 112 – My America Includes Clayton Fletcher (part one) – Monday November 18, 2024 – Toronto, Ontario

·

I listen to podcasts.

I walk to and from work every day. That’s how I keep my girlish figure, don’t you know!

It’s 4.3 kilometers (about 3 miles) as the crow flies, but… you know… not a crow so… takes me a little less than an hour each way. And just like the mailman, neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays this courageous courier. Except for rain. I mean, c’mon, fuck that, right? I’m not a duck fer Chrissakes.

Anyway, my favorite day is Friday, because that’s when I listen to Clayton Fletcher on The Tournament Poker Edge Podcast.

This guy is so good.

Unlike so many poker podcasters, Clayton mostly focuses on strategy, and not so much “the poker mind” which to be honest is kinda meh, at best. I mean, sorry, Daniel Negreanu boasting about his alleged clairvoyant skills just doesn’t blow my hair back. (so to speak…)

But Clayton (note the first name basis) is not like that. Hand-by-hand, he deals in fundamental GTO (Game Theory Optimal) play. And he anecdotally shares the highs AND the lows of his pretty impressive poker resume, happy to admit when he misplays a hand, or falls into a slump (things we can all relate to) and more than happy to let the listener benefit from his thrills of victory as well as his agonies of defeat.

He’s a professional stand-up comedian by trade, from Baltimore (big Orioles fan) in addition to being a very knowledgeable poker player and enthusiast. I don’t know how funny he is on stage, but for some reason he seems to perform in Ontario a lot, so I may check him out next time he’s in town.

Anyway, I love his energy and his honesty on the pod. And the structure makes for a really educational and entertaining half hour. He’s good for my game, this guy. I highly, highly recommend.

Anyway, hopefully some of that schooling will pay off later this week when I head to the WSOP circuit series at The Commerce Casino in Los Angeles November 21-25.

I bet you any money James Woods will be there. Stay tuned.
