Blog 64 – Nice Pairs. – June 18, 2016 – Las Vegas

I don’t know if it was lack of sleep or lack of cards or lack of skill, but the WSOP Seniors tournament didn’t go so well. I was cooking pretty early and creatively grinding out some pots despite no good cards and never hitting one flop, but then I lost some chips when my pocket 8’s lost to a short-stacked pair of 6’s when the board ran 467Q2. That hurt.

Eventually I went out on a heartbreaker. I was very short-stacked with about 2100 chips with the blinds 150-300 and got it in with AT suited. I even got a protection bet from MP so I had a chance to triple-up against QK suited. The flop came 8JQ so my opponent hit top pair but I hit a double belly gut-buster. The turn brought a blessed 9 to fill my straight and I breathed a sigh of relief. I would have 6500 chips and be right back in it. The river brought a T, and there was a brief collective gasp from the table as they realized the T put a straight on the board. But his K gave him the higher one. And I was out. That’s kinda how it’s been going for me.

Randy and I had a great dinner here at The Encore and then headed overt to Caesars. We played in a little $150 buy-in tournament, we both lost and then had some fun at the tables. Decidedly raunchier crowd over at Caesars. Nasty women. Randy held court at the craps table for awhile, and at some point I ended up throwing the dice even though I’ve never put a dime on a craps table in my life. I held the dice for about twenty rolls (apparently a good thing) and everybody at the table (including Randy) made a lot of money, and all kinds of  merriment ensued, with Randy coaxing the crowd along like a camp counselor on Spirit Day. He knows how to have a good time, my buddy. Nobody complains when he’s in the casino. OK maybe his liver does.

Went to the Spa this morning, worked out, lay by the pool in the hot sun. There’s an adult-only “European” pool here where the women are not discouraged from going topless. There may have a few enormously large surgically-enhanced exposed breasts. I didn’t notice.

I’m about to go play in the Wynn Classic $1000 buy-in now. I’ll let you know how it goes.
