Blog Number Four: In The tourney now – First Break 4 PM local time

·

Well I figured if I’m going to do this blog I’d at least have to make it to the first break. From that point of view: Mission Accomplished, although not much else has been accomplished I can tell you that for free. As I often tell Ruth, a monkey can get through the early rounds of a tournament just by showing up. Well, that proverbial monkey might have fared a bit better than me. The only hand of note my AQ was beaten on the turn with a board of A245J (rainbow) when the 12 year old staring across from me (who had called my preflop raise from middle position AND my post-flop bet, go figure) showed me T3 (suited). Fortunately he didn’t get as much out of me as he probably should have. That one hurt but it’s been uneventful other than that so at the break I’m down to about 6800 chips (from 10000). The first 2 hours only eliminated about 15 fellas from the starting 230. The next two should prove more perilous.

Oh I was wrong. Negreanu did start today, as did Barney Boatman, Juha Hellpi and some other famous guys along with a roomful of gibberish spouting Danes. I swear this language is made up. You know that place where you play Let It Be backwards? They’re not actually chanting “Paul Is Dead, Paul is Dead” , they’re just speaking Danish.
